Meet our Volunteers

SEAKERS Aquatic Adventures is only possible because of the Volunteers that work so hard to support this ministry. We wanted to introduce you to the SEAKERS volunteers that are behind the scenes, selflessly giving their time and resources.

This month we are highlighting one of our amazing volunteers who is always there to help. Daryl Huffman has been on our Board of Directors for 5 years. He is an extremely hard worker and has a huge heart to support and help those in his community. We are so thankful for Daryl and his whole family that have given so much to this ministry.

We are better together and SEAKERS is much better because of this volunteer. We are honored to introduce you to

1. How long have you been volunteering and what is your job with SEAKERS?

"I think it is about 5 years now, my job is to be a servant in whatever needs to be done, from hauling tanks to getting in the water to assist or just being there to chat if someone needs to chat."

2. What is your favorite bible verse?

"I have a few favorite verses, for sure I love the SEAKERS verse Jeremiah 29:11, which I claim, but I also like Philippians 2:3-4 “Do nothing from selfish ambition or Conceit but in Humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests but also to the interest of others." I think this one really fits for any servant or anyone trying to serve. So many times servants want to get credit or limelight and what is really needed is just someone to take on the jobs that no one else wants to do. This is when you see true servants and their sacrifices."

3. Why do you volunteer for SEAKERS and how has it enriched your life?

"I have always volunteered for service and it just truly makes me feel satisfied that I can help others in whatever way God directs me to help. Sometimes we don’t know the effect we have on people, but so many people are in need of being shown love and when you can do that in any small way it can truly have an impact on their lives."

4. In what ways do you connect with God underwater?

"I love the peace and quiet and no distractions (other than His creation, which can be a breathtaking distraction), which is the awesome part of seeing a things that we don’t get to see every day. It is so quiet, other than your own breath going in and out and a good time to just have a devotion and prayer."

5. What do you love about scuba diving?

"I love the destination. The journey can be just as much fun but for sure, but I love the destination of getting to the end point of what you went to see. I also do love the journey of what it takes as a team to get everyone down and back safely and then talking about all the situations or challenges that came up and how people overcame them, especially when there is someone that is struggling and they overcome it to make it a success, that in itself is fun to see."

6. In what ways have you seen SEAKERS impact the community?

"I believe that with the growth of SEAKERS over the 5 or so years I have been involved has really shown what it takes from a “Village” perspective to keep it running and how many people of all different walks of life have jumped in and volunteered and donated time and money to keep it rolling and how it can bring families together in different ways. I can attest to the miracle in my life with my children, especially my son who has had 3 major ear surgeries, who I thought would never dive and then my daughter had the same issue and with prayer and a good doctor said 'go dive' and it helped bring us back together in their teen years when it can be tough to bond. I have seen many changes in many people because of SEAKERS and if they take that positive attitude into the community it can only have a Positive effect and bring GOD into the light."
